Answers to the questions we hear most often from prospective clients.
General
Africom Group is an enterprise architecture and technology consulting firm. We work across four disciplines: Enterprise Architecture, AI & Data Solutions, Cloud & Infrastructure, and Digital Transformation. We've been doing this work for over 15 years — with a track record that spans MTN Nigeria, Eskom, Standard Bank, Old Mutual, Liberty Health, Ecobank, Boubyan Bank Kuwait, Agribank Namibia, Qatar Investment Authority, Oman L&G, and Batelco Bahrain — across Africa and the Middle East. We help organisations design and implement technology strategies that drive real, measurable business outcomes.
Enterprise architecture is the discipline of designing how an organisation's systems, data, processes, and technology work together as a coherent whole. It matters because most technology failures aren't failures of individual tools — they're failures of integration, governance, and structural design. Our EA background means every AI deployment, cloud migration, or transformation programme we deliver is grounded in how things actually connect, not just how they work in isolation.
We work across financial services, retail and consumer goods, healthcare, mining and resources, government and public sector, and telecommunications. Our methodologies are industry-agnostic, but we bring deep sector experience to every engagement.
Our clients range from large enterprises and JSE-listed companies to ambitious mid-market businesses. We're less focused on company size than on whether an organisation is serious about using technology to create real change.
Yes — we operate across eight African markets including South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, and Namibia. We have in-country partnerships that allow us to navigate local regulations and connectivity realities effectively.
AI & Data
Start with the problem, not the technology. We typically begin with a discovery workshop to identify high-value use cases where AI can make a measurable difference — cost reduction, revenue uplift, risk mitigation, or customer experience. From there, we assess data readiness and design a pragmatic roadmap.
Absolutely. In fact, this is one of the most common situations we encounter. Data quality and architecture work often precedes any analytics or AI work, and it's some of the most valuable investment an organisation can make. We've helped many clients go from disorganised, siloed data to a well-governed data platform in 6–12 months.
Cloud & Transformation
It depends heavily on the complexity of the environment. A focused workload migration might take 6–10 weeks. A full enterprise cloud migration could take 12–24 months. We always start with an assessment phase that gives you a realistic, phased roadmap before any migration begins.
In our experience, the technology almost never fails — people and process do. The most common failure modes are unclear ownership and sponsorship, underestimating change management, and trying to do too much at once. Our transformation approach addresses all three from day one.
Yes. Many of our clients engage us for ongoing managed services, continuous improvement retainers, or ad-hoc advisory support after the initial project. We believe our job isn't done when a project closes — it's done when you're getting the outcomes you engaged us for.
